Directed by Taylor Hackford, An Officer and a Gentleman is the acclaimed 1982 romantic drama starring Richard Gere, Debra Winger, Louis Gossett Jr., David Keith, Robert Loggia and David Caruso.

Richard Gere stars as Zack Mayo, a determined young man who enters the U.S. Navy's Aviation Officer Candidate School. His demanding training brings him into conflict with Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley, played by Louis Gossett Jr., while his relationship with local factory worker Paula Pokrifki, played by Debra Winger, forces him to confront his ambitions and troubled past.

The film was a major critical and commercial success, with Debra Winger receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and Louis Gossett Jr. winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
