Directed by Umberto Lenzi, Assault with a Deadly Weapon is a hard-edged Italian crime and action thriller starring Maurizio Merli, Tomas Milian, Arthur Kennedy, Rosemary Omaggio and Ivan Rassimov.

Maurizio Merli stars as Inspector Leonardo Tanzi, a tough Roman police officer whose uncompromising methods bring him into conflict with both violent criminals and his own superiors. Tomas Milian appears as the memorable hunchbacked criminal Vincenzo Moretto.

Originally released in Italy in 1976 as Roma a mano armata and also known internationally as Rome Armed to the Teeth and The Tough Ones, the film was re-edited and released in the United States in 1982 under the title Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The film is a notable example of the 1970s Italian poliziottesco cycle of violent crime and police thrillers.
