Directed by Don Sharp and based on the novel by Alistair MacLean, Bear Island is a 1979 British-Canadian action adventure mystery thriller starring Donald Sutherland, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, Christopher Lee, Barbara Parkins and Lloyd Bridges.

Set on the remote Bear Island in the Arctic, the story follows an international scientific expedition whose members become caught up in a dangerous mystery connected to the island's wartime past.

Donald Sutherland stars as scientist Frank Lansing, alongside Vanessa Redgrave as Heddi Lindquist, Richard Widmark as Otto Gerran, Christopher Lee as Lechinski and Lloyd Bridges as Smithy.

Combining an isolated Arctic setting with mystery, action and adventure, Bear Island was adapted from Alistair MacLean's 1971 novel of the same name.
