Directed by Walter Lang, But Not for Me is a 1959 romantic comedy starring Clark Gable, Carroll Baker, Lilli Palmer, Lee J. Cobb, Barry Coe and Thomas Gomez.

Clark Gable stars as veteran Broadway producer Russ Ward, who decides to retire after concluding that his best years in the theatre are behind him. His plans change when his much younger secretary Ellie Brown, played by Carroll Baker, unexpectedly declares that she is in love with him.

Inspired by the situation, Russ becomes involved in developing a new play built around a May-December romance, while his relationship with Ellie becomes increasingly complicated.

Lilli Palmer co-stars as Russ's former wife Kathryn, with Lee J. Cobb as playwright Jeremiah MacDonald.

Based on Samson Raphaelson's play Accent on Youth, But Not for Me was one of Clark Gable's final films and was released just two years before his last screen appearance in The Misfits.
