Directed by Sydney Pollack, Out of Africa is a 1985 romantic drama starring Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and Klaus Maria Brandauer, with Michael Kitchen and Michael Gough.

Meryl Streep stars as Danish writer Karen Blixen, who moves to British East Africa and establishes a coffee plantation following her marriage to Baron Bror Blixen. As the marriage deteriorates, she develops a relationship with adventurer and big-game hunter Denys Finch Hatton, played by Robert Redford.

Inspired by the writings and life of Karen Blixen, who published under the name Isak Dinesen, the film became one of the major critical successes of the 1980s.

Out of Africa won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Sydney Pollack, with Meryl Streep also receiving a Best Actress nomination.
