Directed by explorers and filmmakers Lewis Cotlow and Armand Denis, Savage Splendor (1949) is a colour documentary chronicling an expedition through Africa and its wildlife, landscapes and communities.

Promoted with the tagline "Wildest Africa explodes – in blazing color, the first time!", the film belongs to the post-war cycle of theatrical travel and expedition documentaries. Cotlow was a noted explorer, author and filmmaker whose expeditions took him across Africa and other remote regions of the world, while Denis became well known for his wildlife and travel films.
