Directed by Hal Needham, Smokey and the Bandit (1977) is the classic action comedy starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason.

Burt Reynolds stars as the Bandit, who accepts a challenge to illegally transport a truckload of Coors beer from Texas to Georgia within 28 hours. With his friend Snowman driving the truck, Bandit uses his black Pontiac Trans Am to divert the attention of the police, leading to a succession of high-speed chases and encounters with Jackie Gleason's memorable Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

One of the defining car-chase films of the 1970s, Smokey and the Bandit became a major box-office success and helped cement the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am as an icon of American popular culture.
