Directed by Bernard McEveety, The Bears and I is a 1974 Walt Disney family adventure drama starring Patrick Wayne, Chief Dan George, Andrew Duggan, Michael Ansara and Robert Pine.

Patrick Wayne stars as Vietnam veteran Bob Leslie, who travels into the Canadian wilderness to return the belongings of a fallen friend to his father, Chief Peter A-Tas-Ka-Nay, played by Chief Dan George.

After deciding to remain in the wilderness, Bob adopts three orphaned bear cubs and attempts to raise them before returning them to the wild. His growing attachment to the bears becomes intertwined with a dispute affecting the local Indigenous community and the land on which they live.

Based on Robert Franklin Leslie's 1968 book The Bears and I, the film was shot on location in the forests of British Columbia and features the song Sweet Surrender, written and performed by John Denver.
