Directed by Stuart Rosenberg, The Drowning Pool is a 1975 American neo-noir crime thriller starring Paul Newman as private detective Lew Harper, reprising the role he first played in Harper (1966).

Based on the novel by Ross Macdonald, the film follows Harper as he travels to Louisiana at the request of an old acquaintance, Iris Devereaux, played by Joanne Woodward.

What begins as an investigation into a blackmail attempt soon develops into a complicated mystery involving family secrets, deception and murder.

The supporting cast includes Anthony Franciosa, Linda Haynes, Melanie Griffith, Richard Jaeckel and Gail Strickland.

Set against the atmospheric backdrop of Louisiana, The Drowning Pool combines traditional private-eye detective fiction with the darker themes and visual style of 1970s American crime cinema.

The film is also notable for featuring an early screen appearance by Melanie Griffith.

This original Italian theatrical poster was produced in the impressive 4-Fogli format, traditionally printed in two separate sections designed to overlap when displayed. Measuring approximately 140 x 198 cm, it offers a substantial display size and a distinctive example of Italian cinema advertising.

An appealing original 1970s movie poster for collectors of Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, classic detective films and vintage Italian cinema memorabilia.
