Directed by John Mackenzie and based on the novel by Graham Greene, The Honorary Consul is a 1983 romantic political thriller starring Michael Caine, Richard Gere, Bob Hoskins, Elpidia Carrillo and Joaquim de Almeida.

Set against political unrest in Argentina, Richard Gere stars as Dr Eduardo Plarr, whose relationships with the local British community and revolutionary group become increasingly complicated when his friend, the alcoholic British honorary consul Charley Fortnum, played by Michael Caine, is mistakenly kidnapped.

Bob Hoskins co-stars as Colonel Perez, with Elpidia Carrillo as Clara Fortnum and Joaquim de Almeida as León.

Released in the United States under the alternative title Beyond the Limit, the film's international campaign retained the original title The Honorary Consul. This British Quad features artwork by celebrated American illustrator Richard Amsel.
