Directed by Sylvain Chomet, The Illusionist (L'Illusionniste) is a critically acclaimed 2010 animated drama based on an unproduced screenplay by the legendary French filmmaker and comedian Jacques Tati.
Set during the late 1950s, the film follows an ageing French stage magician whose traditional performances are becoming increasingly overlooked as changing tastes and modern entertainment begin to transform the world around him.
Travelling through Britain and eventually arriving in Scotland, the magician forms an unlikely friendship with Alice, a young woman who believes his illusions are genuine magic.
As the pair navigate their changing circumstances, the film develops into a touching story about friendship, generosity, loneliness and the passing of an era.
Featuring beautifully detailed hand-drawn animation and very little dialogue, The Illusionist captures the atmosphere of post-war Europe with a distinctive visual style reminiscent of Jacques Tati's own films.
The voice cast includes Jean-Claude Donda, Eilidh Rankin, Duncan MacNeil, Raymond Mearns and James T. Muir.
The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature and won the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
Released in Italy as L'Illusionista, this original theatrical poster features an elegant minimalist design showing the magician in his distinctive red costume against a dark background.
The restrained composition reflects the film's nostalgic atmosphere and makes this a particularly attractive example of contemporary animated cinema advertising.
Produced in the impressive Italian 4-Fogli format, the poster consists of two printed sections designed to overlap when displayed.
An appealing original theatrical poster for collectors of Sylvain Chomet, Jacques Tati, European animation and distinctive Italian movie poster artwork.
