Directed by James Goldstone and produced by Irwin Allen, When Time Ran Out is a 1980 disaster adventure film starring Paul Newman, Jacqueline Bisset, William Holden, Edward Albert, Red Buttons, Barbara Carrera, Ernest Borgnine and Burgess Meredith.

Set on a South Pacific island dominated by an active volcano, Paul Newman stars as oil expert Hank Anderson, who becomes increasingly concerned that a major eruption is imminent. His warnings bring him into conflict with resort owner Shelby Gilmore, played by William Holden, as the island's inhabitants and visitors face an escalating natural disaster.

Jacqueline Bisset co-stars as Kay Kirby, with the large ensemble cast also including James Franciscus, Veronica Hamel, Pat Morita and Alex Karras.

Produced by disaster-film specialist Irwin Allen, When Time Ran Out continued the large-scale disaster cycle associated with films such as The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno.
