Directed by John Schlesinger, Yanks is a 1979 Second World War romantic drama starring Richard Gere, Lisa Eichhorn, Vanessa Redgrave, William Devane and Rachel Roberts.

Set in England during the build-up to D-Day, the film follows American servicemen stationed in Britain and the relationships they form with local women while awaiting deployment to Europe.

Richard Gere stars as American soldier Matt Dyson, who begins a relationship with Jean Moreton, played by Lisa Eichhorn, despite her having a boyfriend serving overseas. Vanessa Redgrave and William Devane feature in a parallel relationship involving an Englishwoman and an American officer.

Filmed extensively in Northern England, Yanks combines wartime drama and romance with a portrait of the cultural impact of American troops stationed in Britain during the Second World War.
