Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on Mario Puzo's novel, The Godfather is one of the defining films of American cinema. Marlon Brando stars as Don Vito Corleone alongside Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, with James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire and John Cazale among the celebrated ensemble cast.

The film chronicles the Corleone crime family and Michael's transformation from reluctant outsider to his father's successor. Released in 1972, The Godfather won the Academy Award for Best Picture, with Marlon Brando winning Best Actor and Coppola and Puzo winning Best Adapted Screenplay.

Issued in 1991 for video rental store display, this unusually proportioned promotional poster represents a different chapter in the film's history from its original theatrical advertising.
